Has your name seen the naughty list a few times this past year? Or... I'll bet you can think of a few people who ought to see a lump of coal, or two, this Christmas. Mike gave me a lump of coal last Christmas. Yeah. At the bottom of my stocking. It made it FILTHY. It was a joke, ha ha very funny, but still it was messy.
So... with great pleasure and much ado, I announce the COAL SACK!

Here's how I did it:
1. Cut out your letters from Freezer paper either using a personal cutting machine or a craft knife (I invited myself over to my friend's house while she was busy with English research papers and studying for finals so I could use her Cricut. Because I'm so thougtful like that. Really, I just misplaced my craft knife and needed something FAST). Iron your freezer paper to a piece of burlap. I made sure to iron mine near the selvedge (4-5 inches away) so I could have a non-fraying top to my sack.

2. Using fabric paint and a sponge brush, paint over the letters. I didn't worry about a second coat because I wanted it to have a rough, stamped look. Do whatever you want! Let it dry for a while... or do as I did and just blow it dry with your hairdryer for a few minutes. Patience is not my thing, people.

3. Carefully pull off the freezer paper and check out your work! It really does look stamped. And that 1773? Apparantly that was the year the name SANTA CLAUS first appeared in Print in the United States. Thanks, Wikipedia.

4. I cut out around the lettering leaving a few inches on every side. Cut a second piece the same size- I made sure my second piece had a selvedge top as well.

5. Push your quilt WIP's aside and put your two burlap pieces right sides together. Since burlap doesn't HAVE right sides... just make sure your wording is on the inside :). Sew the sides and bottoms together.

6. Trim your corners for a nice finish.
7. Turn right side out, drop in a piece of coal (or, if you don't happen to find one, a charcoal briquette or two works too!) and tie the top with a pretty Christmas-y ribbon. Stick it in the stocking of that "naughty" recipient. Have a good laugh on Christmas morning!
And... since this is my 100th POST (WOO HOO! YA! RAH RAH RAH!) I am going to be giving this coal sack to a lucky reader. Sorry, I'm not putting in the coal... that's for your guilty conscience alone :). To enter this GIVEAWAY:
