I also made this pillow for my sister. She is decorating her house in the cutest, brightest colors. It is like a breath of fresh air walking in, and the pillow is an accent in a yellow room. The secret to a good-looking pillow cover is a tight fit. Because this was a really nice polyester pillowform, I cut the pieces 1" smaller than the pillow size. 1/2" seam allowances resulted in a pillow form 2" smaller than the pillow, and it is nice and tight, but still smooshable! Don't use this method with the stiff pillow forms from JoAnn... trust me :)
I made the pillow with a zipper closure (invisible zipper... but I didn't have the special foot so it is slightly visible :)), but if you want to know how to make a pillow without a zipper, I recommend this tutorial by Homemade by Jill.
I'm off to the store to buy fabric... I know, I know. But the quilt shop nearest me is discontinuing their fabric and everything is 40 % off. Heather Bailey? 40% off? I'm so there.

I love that pillow. You are right, the tight fit looks great. Maybe you should take some pictures of your sister's house. I would love to see all the bright colors that I am too chicken to use.
ReplyDeleteHey, share the info! What quilt shop is having the sale?

Yay Alisa's pillow finally got made! And love the wall basting! Glad it worked :) Oh yeah, I forgot to tell my mom about the store closing...oops!
ReplyDeleteI love the pillow! I can't wait to put it on my couch. And you can take pics of my house if you want. Let me just finish painting the rest of the chairs black!
ReplyDeleteLove the idea of doing it on the wall. Brilliant! I just read someone doing it on their tile kitchen floor too. I bet the wall is cleaner. I am trying these ideas on my next quilt, which should be any day now (I am almost done with the top!)
