Our Submission for Round 3 was the Barnyard Bag. This one was totally, 100% Jill. She even scanned her sketches for me so I didn't have to do any of the thinking. This is why we have a Star Partner!! Anyway, the bag turned out super cute, even though I know I could have done some things better, like having an adjustable strap so my 3-year-old can carry her new toy instead of me.
It was a really simple shape, that you can see from the very top photo, and when folded just so, it makes a bag. Little flaps to make it an actual bag are held shut with buttons and elastic loops.
The most time intensive part was the actual farm scene. I made the hay easily enough, with strips of felt cut to make little fringe pieces, and then I layered them.
The mud pit, and little lake, were blanket-stitched on and then embellished with little swirls and waves. The white picket fence surrounds nearly the whole top portion, with a little opening for the tractor, and wayward animals, to make their way through.
The coolest part is the barn itself- it is just red fabric with felt embellishments, and the barn doors are little pockets to hold all the little farm friends.
It was fun to make, and almost as exciting to photograph, since we pulled over to a dairy farm and asked if we could stand by their cows and tractor and such and take pictures. I almost stepped in a cow placenta taking this below photo- those were loving new moms in the back. And I mean NEW, like, still licking their little babies to get them clean.
Happy Wednesday.

ReplyDeleteI guessed that was your project and am so happy that you made it to the finals! Jill mentioned on her blog that you did that all in a week, and to that I say high-five. I'm looking forward to any information you share because it was so cute and brilliant! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteThis is so cute! Where did you get the perfect sized toy animals and tractor to go along with the set? I can't wait to try making one myself.
ReplyDeleteIt may have been my idea, but you did all the hard work! It turned out so cute and fun - I can't wait to make my own. :)
ReplyDeleteRaylene,
ReplyDeleteMy kiddos have a John Deere farm playset, which is what they use with this. When they need more recruits, they use their Little People farm animals and farmer.
I thought it would be fun to do a castle and moat and forest, etc. using this same pattern, and just use the tiny princess sets sold at Target. Any idea would work!
This is just adorable! I love all of the fun details.
ReplyDeleteThat is just too cool! I need to stop looking at everyones blogs.... I keep seeing so many cute things that I keep changing my mind on xmas presents. you did a fab job on this!
ReplyDeleteThis is the one I voted for! So inventive and useful! And ADORABLE!

Great! I used your idea and made my own versions (as farms don't look like that in Sweden), mine is not as good as yours, but the kids liked it anyway!
