There are… 9 days left for Christmas preparations. I still only have one gift for my 3-year-old. And yet, I just couldn’t move on from the doll projects. Well, I am finally done! I should have planned better, prioritized better, etc., but I am not good like that.
This quilt took me forever. At least, it took me a lot longer than I thought it would. I adapted Vanessa’s tutorial so it would be more rectangular and better suited for wrapping baby dolls. I just kept cutting, and cutting… and sewing little triangles until I went cross-eyed. Piecing always takes longer for me because I don’t have a 1/4” foot (been on the Christmas/Birthday list for 2 years now… perhaps I need to try something less subtle so the hubs won’t forget?).
I went completely with stash for every one of my doll projects. I am pretty tickled with myself! The only cut I got sad about was the binding- it was a full yard, still uncut. I have a hard time cutting into such big pieces of fabric. I know, I’ll get over it.
But it was pretty worth it, right? It is a decent sized doll quilt, and will keep our 18” doll warm as well.
If I were to do a doll quilt again, I’d go way simpler and either quilt a solid piece front and back or do a really, really simple block. Especially when I still have the munchkin to think about.
What do you make for husbands??? I might just break down and get him some bank notes (he is a collector). We shall see. I have done a few other things but for people who read this blog so… after Christmas you can see!
If I am MIA on here in the next few days, you know why!

That quilt is gorgeous! Love the colors. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I haven't bought a single Christmas gift yet....I'm starting to enter panic mode!
:)
That looks fabulous! Love all the fabrics!
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping to make hubby a water bottle belt to wear when he goes running. Hoping is the key word there! He asked for an Apple applique t-shirt a while back (which I made for him), and a little pouch to keep his toiletries organized in his gym bag. Depending on hubby's interests, you could make him a stadium cushion, golf club covers, a special frame or display case for his bank notes...
ReplyDeleteI think it's adorable!! I can see why you'd go simpler next time, but I think you'll be glad later that you didn't on this one!
ReplyDeleteCute! Love the fabrics - and I'm a sucker for pinwheels.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what type of machine you have, but having a 1/4" foot isn't all it's cracked up to be. I actually find I'm more accurate when I use my transparent regular foot. Maybe you'll have better luck that I have!
