I Spy With My Little Eye

First, thanks everyone for your comments lately.  I’m feeling great about who I am and what I do and I feel supported by every one of you- I’m glad I’m not the only one who has to beat down uncertainties every now and then!

I Spy a Chair

I had the opportunity to participate in an I-Spy Charm Swap this last month (Thanks to Kati of From The Blue Chair), and it was my first.  Let me tell ya, that is a great way to get a lot of spy-worthy fabric without buying everything yourself.  Loved it.

I had a little extra time one night (you know, between that 1am and 2 am hour) and did a frenzy of chain piecing to get these together.  I pulled eight more fabrics from my stash to get the quilt as big as I wanted it and added them to the charm mix.  The next night, I added borders, and then little by little I would quilt it with straight lines when I found a minute here and a minute there.  Last night I finally added the binding.  Lucky for me, I had the fabric for backing and binding sitting in my stash waiting to be used.

ISpy front and back

When my 2-year-old woke up last night with a soaking we bed, she needed some consoling (for the record, she refuses to wear diapers to bed anymore, and she’s having more accidents during the day too.  We are lose-lose around here).  I had just snipped the final threads from the quilt when she started crying, so we changed her and her bed (where a huge battle ensued and it took two adults to pull off soaking panties from a 2-year-old, and we nearly lost that battle!) and I sat with her and we played I-Spy with this quilt for a while.

She ended up in bed with us last night.  On my side of the bed. But I digress.

We played with it again this morning in actual daylight.  I spy…

… and a whole lot of other fun ones.  I guess people often make cards or lists to help play the game, but we were on a roll without any of that.  Cranky toddlers are cute to listen to…

“I thpy a capatiller”

“I thpy an octodots”

“I thpy a bana”

(and when she’d find one) “Ding!!”

  3. I so remember those days of royal battles that we almost never won! I blinked and now my daughter is 22! We still have the occasional royal battle but usually just when I am butting in where I don't belong. My advice...don't blink!!!
Your I Spy quilt is lovely. Happy sewing!

  6. Walmart sells an absorbent reusable/washable pad for $10. invest in them. it's quicker & easier to change a pad on top of the sheets instead of changing the sheets. Look for them by the depends or pharmacy dept. My son still has accidents & it's much better to deal with one thing at 2AM then the whole deal. very cute quilt. sounds like I need to find someone to swap I spy scraps with.

  7. Beautiful quilt!! Sometimes I-Spy quilts are a little too crazy/busy for my taste, but I LOVE this one.
