My favorite era EVER is the 1950’s. Mostly because I love the design style, but also because I heard so much about that time from my great-grandpa.
My great-grandpa Ellis worked for General Electric, and he claims he was one of the brains behind colored appliances. This photo is my great-aunt Kathy, pulling some homemade croissants out of their new yellow-gold double oven for a GE product ad. The pearl necklace, half apron, full-skirted dress… doesn’t it make you want to step in and bake along with her?
Today on Curbly I have a post where I tried to sync my baking vibes with my family history, and I made a modern cooling rack out of a cutting board. I really like it; it is much easier to use for my cookie batches, bread, etc. than my big wire cooling rack. And it is prettier too.
You can see the tutorial here!

What a fun photo! Maybe we're related- my grandparents are the Ellis', too! :)
ReplyDeleteI'd love to wear those dresses and aprons all the time too! What a great photo.
ReplyDeleteAh, clever cooling board! I love those full dresses with the aprons too. By the way, I really like the way you wrote your guest post. It was very interesting to read. =)
ReplyDeleteWhat a stinkin' cute idea! I hate the metal racks because they are a pain to clean. What a great idea Mel, and I loved the post!
