Vintage Modern Baby Quilt

Vintage Modern Baby Quilt 3

I finished this quilt up last night and woke up excited to take photos!  I have really, REALLY enjoyed working with this fabric line.  I am usually not a big floral fan, but this Vintage Modern line by Bonnie and Camille for Moda just has me smitten.  The line has lots of stash-building basics, like polka-dots and small-scale prints.

I only used one charm pack for this quilt, but split each square in half with a scalloped stripe from their Ruby line.  It was originally going to be an X & O pattern, but with only one charm pack, I had a row of incomplete O’s.  While I was stacking each row to sew them together, I noticed that the stacks resulted in a sideways chevron!  So, I unstacked everything, rotated all the squares, and ended up with the small chevron running through the quilt top. I felt much better with it, since I’m a symmetry-loving gal and couldn’t have an incomplete O hanging around.

My favorite color is blue, so I chose the big blue floral print for the backing.  I bound it in another Ruby scalloped stripe, which I was sort of sad to do because it is the perfect gray print.  I should have bought more than 1/2 yard!

I had this sitting under my machine to be quilted all day, and if I found a spare minute, I was at that sewing machine quilting away.  It was finished in no time, it seemed, even if it did take all day!

My favorite prints from this line are, of course, the houndstooth prints, but also the “snickerdoodle” prints- the ones that look like fancy pez candies.

It measures 42” x 46” and is listed in the shop!

  7. So cute! I bought the Ruby jelly roll about a year ago and can't wait to make a fence rail quilt with it for my daughter. Now, all I need is the time... Love how yours turned out!
