Pink Pinwheels Baby Quilt

Pink Pinwheel Quilt by The Crafty Cupboard

Here’s a non-Halloween project I have been working on for a few weeks now- the Pink Pinwheel quilt!  A friend of mine is expecting a baby girl in November after several years of waiting for the little bundle of cuteness.

Pinwheel Quilt

I was so excited when she told me she was pregnant, and I started pulling patterns and fabric that day.  It took months for me to settle on something, and it ended up being one of the simplest patterns that I had in the pile!  I used the Pinwheel Quilt tutorial on Sew mama Sew, one I’ve been meaning to try for a long time. I made the blocks a little smaller, because I wanted to use this Heather Bailey Zig Zag print on the back, and I didn’t want to interrupt it with piecing so I had to keep the quilt to about 40” square.

Zig Zag Backing and Pink Binding

It is so fun to make a quilt for someone you know; you think about that person and their little baby a lot during the quilting process.  You wonder if they’ll prefer one fabric over another, and you laugh at yourself when a little mistake happens because you know she’d be laughing with you over it too.  It makes the process much more fun.

Quilt Roll Up

I was able to give my friend the quilt last night at her baby shower, and with it sitting there amongst all the cute pink clothes, burp cloths, and bows I just knew it would fit right in with all the adventures that little baby would soon be on!

Quilt measures 40.5” x 40.5” and uses various prints for the pinwheels.

  1. Melanie it is so beautiful and I love it sooo much! I keep spreading it out and then folding it up and spreading it out and folding it up. I can't help myself with it's cuteness. What a sweet act of love and friendship. I will always cherish it and associate it with this special time in my life. You are such a generous kind friend.
