Thank you Invisalign for sponsoring this post. Invisalign, a new alternative to braces, is celebrating 2 Million Smiles (2 million straightened smiles and counting!).

There was once a time when all I wanted for Christmas was my two front teeth… to be straight and not so buck-y. I had a pretty decent overbite back in the day, and I was self conscious about it too.
So, when I was 15 years old my parents took me to the orthodontist and I had some fancy metal braces slapped on my teeth. I actually really loved my braces. I loved that they were fixing my teeth! Yay!!! However, the things like my top lip getting stuck on that little bracket, rubber bands, and not eating my beloved popcorn were huge setbacks. And laughing, whenever I laughed I felt like my braces were sticking out 4 inches from my face!
That’s not the end of it either. When I was 16, and still in braces, I got my first kiss, amazingly enough (not with my friend pictured above, I don’t want to slander him like that!). And after a spaghetti dinner. Let’s just say my lips stayed as tightly shut as they possibly could! I’m pretty sure my whole magical moment was spent thinking about the noodles that were stuck in my braces. Poor guy. ;) At least I remember who it was!
Anyway, my teeth did finally straighten out, and after getting two brand new front teeth (result of chipping them so much when I was younger from having them stick out so far) I am in love with my smile. Smiling is my favorite!

My brother-in-law is getting his teeth straightened out right now, at the same age I was, except he has Invisalign. I had NO idea he had them because they were so unnoticeable! I asked him a little about it, and he said that he has lots of “sets” that he switches out to help the teeth move continually. He pulls them out so he can eat normal food like popcorn, and he plays basketball with them in without worrying about getting his teeth snagged on some opponent’s jersey or something. There are so many advantages to having Invisalign as opposed to traditional braces, I was so surprised! It is no wonder they are celebrating 2 million smiles.
Whenever we go to the dentist, they always ask my husband if he wants to have an appointment with the orthodontist, but we have so far declined because he was the working man, representing his company face to face on a daily basis. Something like Invisalign sounds perfect for an adult too because of their inconspicuous nature.
Did you have braces? Invisalign? Did you have any funny experiences with your metal mouth? I hope smiling is your favorite too!
Tomorrow: a tutorial! See you then!

My brother-in-law uses Invisalign... I didn't know he had them for a long time, just thought he was crazy for running off to brush his teeth all the time. =) I didn't need braces. Even though several of my teeth came in completely sideways, they straightened out on their own.
ReplyDeleteKari did that. Her teeth look great!
